As you know both these devices using big.LITTLE technology , where the processor is divided into two quadcore processor ( Cortex- A15 and Cortex- A7 ) , each time only one processor is working , depending on whether or not the weight of the tasks assigned to the processor . So the term 8 processor Exynos 5 Octa actually somewhat ambiguous .

Samsung has recently announced that the new Exynos 5 Octa using solutions Heterogeneous Multi - Processing ( HMP ) . By using HMP , eight core inside the chipset can work simultaneously within a single time . There is a possibility that the software update through devices like the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 can get performance ' True Octa Core ' .

But it's not . According to the head of the department of technical experts at the Samsung Mobile Solutions , Note 3 and S4 will not get the full force of 8 core processor in it . If Samsung released a patch update though so both processors working simultaneously , the thermal system on the chip have not been able to follow and feared would happen overheat , because the thermal system is only designed for 4 core processors that work simultaneously .
