Microsoft confirmed that Motorola violated a patent license video and H.264 systems are included in the category of essential patents and has been used on Xbox products and Windows operating systems.
"This is an important victory for all those who want affordable products and would like to cooperate with the good," said David Howard, Vice President and General Counsel for Litigation and Competition Microsoft.
The patent is somewhat important and has become the industry standard, which must be licensed to companies that need by way of fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory. Motorola violated agreements with standards bodies to license patents settlers.
A Motorola spokesman indicated would appeal. "We are disappointed with this outcome, but hope to appeal," said Motorola spokesman William Moss.
