According to Samsung and a number of companies in the security industry , the smartphone is now more like a computer that is always online , and therefore threatened by thousands of virus . Currently , hackers could steal corporate data from mobile devices , while Eastern European criminal organization can trick users by imposing tariffs for premium short message services .

In theory , antivirus and other security software can prevent users from downloading suspicious apps or visiting harmful sites .

Samsung 's move was not intended to protect the average user , but businessmen who use their personal phones for work . Samsung has recently introduced a new feature that can separate the sensitive business data from other phone content , such as movies and games . Additional antivirus from Lookout is part of the package .

These last few years , such as antivirus giant Symantec , Kaspersky , and Trend Micro have released antivirus for mobile devices . Lookout estimates that the antivirus has been downloaded 45 million times , while Trend Micro is more than 20 million times in the United States and Kaspersky 1 million times .
