PPnBM Smartphone for Import Controls

Jakarta: Although smart phones (smartphones) luxury debatable, the government will impose a sales tax on luxury goods (VAT BM).

Acting Head of Fiscal Policy Office Ministry of Finance Bambang Permadi Soemantri Brodjonegoro said PPnBM aims to curb the import of smartphones.

Bambang explained, mechanisms to curb the import duty can not be taken because of Indonesia signed the convention duty exemption for information technology products, including smartphones. However, control over the consumption of luxury sales do not violate the convention.

What luxury smartphone? "Do not be seen from the price dong, view of the type of goods. That's total imports. We do aim to curb imports," Bambang said when met in the archipelago of the House on Thursday (29/8).

BM VAT rates for smartphones is still being reviewed. According to Bambang, the charge could be made differently depending on the technology used, for example, by looking at the sophistication of the operating system. "So the more complicated (charge) maki high," he explained.
