Sony Corp. introduced its latest smartphone, the Xperia Z1, on Wednesday (Thursday GMT) in an attempt to become the third-largest smartphone maker after Samsung and Apple world.

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai told a news conference in Berlin, Germany, where Europe's largest consumer electronics exhibition will be held this week, saying that the Sony Xperia Z1 will be available in September.

"Xperia Sony Z1 embodies all that is offered," Hirai said in a telephone interview.
