The Importance of Technology Transfer for Protecting the Ozone

JAKARTA - Ozone ( O3 ) is a gas that is naturally formed in the atmosphere . 90 percent of ozone is in the stratosphere has an important role to protect the Earth from ultraviolet B ( UV- B ) directly .

Depletion layer , it can increase the UV - B radiation is harmful to human health , inhibits plant growth , and affect the food chain .

Depletion of the ozone layer is caused by chemical compounds halocarbons containing chlorine and bromine are released into the air synthetic that came to be known as ozone depleting substances ( ODS ) . Use of BPO should be controlled in order to damage the ozone layer is not getting worse .

In order to improve the condition of the ozone layer , in 1987 set a world concrete measures to reduce the production and consumption of ODS is defined in the Vienna Convention and the Montreal Protocol .

Government of Indonesia itself constantly strive to reduce the use of ODS as one of hydrochlorofluorocarbons ( HCFCs ) which is a kind of substitute materials chlorofluorocarbons ( CFCs ) .

In commemoration of the International Ozone Day 2013, which falls on September 16 , the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia ( MOE ) program promotes the elimination of ODS , and Indonesia has managed to remove the BPO types of Halon , CTC , TCA and CFC .

" We are targeting the elimination of the production and consumption of HCFCs by 97.5 per cent to 2030 and then gradually replaced with more environmentally friendly technology new , " said Deputy Environmental Degradation Control and Climate Change Ministry of Environment , Arief Yuwono in Jakarta , Friday ( 13 / 9/2013 ) .

Furthermore , it was also revealed that the government will implement a policy banning the use of HCFC - 22 . Where , the content is mostly found in the refrigeration and air conditioning (AC ) since January 1, 2015 .

" The importance of the role of manufacturing industry to undertake the transfer of technology to non - HCFC HCFC . To that end , the company has an obligation to remove the use of HCFCs through HPMP program , " he continued .

Strong commitment from all parties and socializing constantly in protecting the ozone layer directly to protect the global climate .
